Job Description
Our client is a large chemical plant located near Houston, TX. They have a current need for an experienced Millwright who has moved into Maintenance Planning, with extensive experience with Centrifugal Compressors. They call this position a Machinery Planning & Execution Lead (MPEL).

The Machinery Planning & Execution Lead is the key machinery knowledge anchor during the complete maintenance life cycle of a specifically assigned Special Purpose machinery train(s). The role and responsibilities will vary though the maintenance cycle (typically 10 years). The position will provide practical, machine specific, technical input during: equipment strategy development, abnormal event response, TA planning and execution, spare parts NPQC, GRS required TA peer assists, and supporting TA execution at other sites.     
Roles of increasing responsibility in Maintenance, typically prior experience as first class Millwright followed by progression to FLS/Specialist positions.  Experience supporting the execution of Major Machinery TAs.
Leadership, teamwork, effective mentoring, effective cross discipline communication, highly organized, risk based problem solving,  self-motivated, innovative application of maintenance technologies, contracting strategy/development

  • For assigned machinery trains, acts as machinery execution coordinator during TAs, leading up to 8 FLSs and 60 machinery labor contractors
  • For non-assigned machinery trains; ensure QA/QC of major machinery TA execution teams, overseeing multiple FLSs and approximately 15 machinery labor contractors
  • Significant mentorship of Machinery Engineers to transfer knowledge of field activities and accelerate development tof practical skills
  • Ensures detailed plans, quality spare parts, organizational support, etc., are in place to facilitate a 100% right first time maintenance execution and startup of Very Critical Equipment (VCE) major machinery trains that have significant economic impact to the business. This requires 3 years of detailed planning and preparation to execute a 6 to 8 week TA and an additional 1 year post-TA to ensure spare part gaps are closed and lessons learned are institutionalized/shared.
  • Creates sustained long term ownership and accountability for TA planning & execution quality
  • Developed at sites to ensure organizational continuity of machine specific knowledge
  • Co-located with site Machinery Engineers to facilitate knowledge transfer and accelerated development of practical skills in junior engineers
  • Has consistent R&R’s at each site to ensure efficient interaction with future Regional TA team
  • Serves as available pool of resources to effectively execute GRS required peer assists (CER3/4s) at other sites
  • Acts as additional TA deck execution quality “layer of protection” over inexperienced site FLSs
  • Must be an “Aspirational Position” for the highest potential mechanical wage personnel
  • Must have reasonable authority to allow detailed execution of work processes, especially post TA follow-ups which are seldom stewarded or recognized
  • Allows existing site Engineering resources to focus on improve items vs. TA planning in which they have no experience or formal training
  • Will require 4 to 8 weeks of extended travel/year including periodic night shift support
  • Sites with similar position have consistently demonstrated higher machinery TA execution performance
  • Responsible for identifying next up candidates for the job family and input on candidates’ development plans
  • Interacts with business teams during early machinery scoping/budgeting of major TAs
  • Significant interaction with labor companies regarding writing and negotiating contracts which requires incumbent to develop strong relationships over time.  Coordinates contracts and PO’s for >$1M with multiple major equipment vendors and labor companies.  Provides extensive support of Procurement organization in contracting process
